Quilt-As-You-Go Stained Glass

 Handmade Quarter-Inch Bias Tape

An advantage of making your own bias is that you can use any fabric you want for the "leading." Another advantage is that it is less expensive than fusible bias.

You can make a channel of pins that will allow you to press the bias quickly and evenly. On the ironing board cover, mark a 1/4" line with a permanent pen. Mark a second line, parallel to the first, about 3" away.

Insert a pin in and out, and then in and out again at both ends of the marked line on the ironing board cover, having the pin on top of the marked line so that there is a 1/4"-wide open space under the center of the pin. Likewise, insert another pin at the second mark.

Cut bias strips 7/8" wide. With right side down, fold the bias in thirds. Insert the end underneath the first pin, and then the second. We are using a printed fabric instead of solid black to make it easier to see what's happening in the photo. Pull the bias strip through the pins, pressing the area between the pins where it's folded.
